Focused induction electromagnetic probe (EM25)

This probe uses a focused electromagnetic array of three coils to provide a conductivity record. A high frequency oscillating magnetic field of a transmitter coil inside the probe induces an alternating electric current within the surrounding conductive formation. This flow, in turn, induces a voltage within the receiver coils in the probe proportional to the conductivity of the formation.

Description

Applications

  • Mainly geophysical prospecting.

The probe coil separations are optimized to achieve high vertical resolution and a deep investigation radius, with minimal influence on the well when wells filled with liquid conductors are registered.
