EFEE BUDAPEST – EXPLAIN ME WHY?

This article presents the results obtained with digital blasting simulations. In the first part, the document explains how the model is constructed and then, based on case studies (fragmentation, vibration), the document shows how accurate the prediction is, comparing the simulations of digital blasting and field data.

In the second part, some typical blasting situations are modeled with the digital blasting simulator. The results are analyzed and, from them, we can answer some of the frequently asked questions of blasters, such as:

• Why is this man who is located 100 m away from the other neighbors the only one to complain?

• Why does my seismograph, which is always in the same location, show a high VPP today, but I have not changed my delay load?

• Why is there a thick fragmentation in the middle of the pile of the stack?

Some of the answers are not really surprising and are confirmed with the field experience. Some of them are really surprising and unexpected, but we can certainly learn from them.
